Ile de Patiras is a fantastic location in the middle of the Gironde estuary around 1.5km from either shore. The only access to the island is by private boat from either Pauillac on the Medoc peninsular or from just north of the town of Blaye on the “mainland” side. Both of these towns are about 50kms North of Bordeaux. The whole island is about 4kms in length and about 1.5km in width. It is almost uninhabited having just one family of permanent residents and two others coming for short stays. L’ile de Patiras is one of only two islands in the estuary that remain in private ownership, and because it is in a planning “red zone” no other houses will be built.
